Crisis and Public Opinion Management Course: How Does It Matter?

Crisis and conflict are things we often encounter in everyday life. We continue to learn to deal with them to become a better individual. However, do you know the impact of crises and conflicts on the professional world? How to deal with them? What is the public relations (PR) role in this matter?

Bachelor of Applied English offers Crisis and Public Opinion Management course. This compulsory subject is offered to 6th semester students. In this course, students are given the opportunity to learn through real cases, besides the theoretical concepts provided by the lecturer. Through this course, students are expected to master the related PR theories and strategies. Other than that, students also expected to be able to apply them to solve a case. read more

What is PR Competency Test?

Hello, future PR! To become and be considered as a reliable PR officer, you ought to hold the PR officer certificate. This certificate represents your professionalism and competence as a PR officer. To obtain this, you need to take the PR Competency Test.

Public Relations Competency Test is a competency test in carrying out the profession of PR. This test aims to assess the knowledge, skills, and competencies of a PR officer theoretically and practically. There are several schemes in the PR competency test. However, Bachelor of Applied English accommodates the students for the Public Relations Officer scheme. All Bachelor of Applied English students who have completed the Introduction to PR course and On The Job Training (OJT) can take the test. There are seven competency units that must be taken in this scheme: conducting PR research; organizinging PR special events; designing PR program planning; establishing media relations; performing as Master of Ceremony; conducting seminars, conferences, workshops and meetings; as well as producing activity documentations. read more

Bachelor of Applied English is a new study program at UGM. After going through a thorough curriculum planning, this study program was finally opened in 2020 to answer the challenges in preparing highly-skilled graduates ready to join the professional industry. By applying the vocational system, the curriculum offered to students has been meticulously planned for real work experiences, not just theoretical study without practices. In other words, this study program includes real practice within most of the courses offered. In addition, Bachelor of Applied English is a Diploma 4 (D4) program whose graduates possess Bachelor of Applied English that is equal to Bachelor of Arts. read more

Besides, the massive disruption caused by the COVID-19 pandemic forces Public Relations practitioners to closely observe any shift in the behavior patterns of various parties, especially the community, in order to determine the right approach strategies.

“I can’t go back to where I used to be … A whole new world.” quoting lyrics from the original soundtrack in the animated movie Aladdin (1992), Agung Laksamana uses it to open the first chapter in his new book entitled “Adapt or Die! Navigating the new world of PR ”. The song lyrics are relevant to the year of 2020-2021. Not only Princess Jasmine and Aladdin, but we are also forced to survive in the era of ‘A Whole New World’ or a new normal. The book “Adapt or Die” discusses the phenomenons that changed the scheme of the world of Public Relations, such as Artificial Intelligence (AI), a new era of journalism, hoaxes, fake news and the era of adaptation to new habits.
