Many people may think that becoming an English student is about translating or becoming an English teacher. It’s actually a lot more than that! Bachelor of Applied English SV UGM does not only allow students to learn English but also equips them with various competencies aligned with the industry. The learning activities are mostly enjoyable. Here are some examples.
1. Movie Screening
Through this activity, students are given the opportunity to see how native English speakers carry out conversations in real life. Books or teaching modules in formal English are less able to provide an overview of the language phenomena spoken by native English speakers in their daily lives. Movie screening then becomes one way to fill this gap.
2. Having Class with Native Speaker
Aside from learning several courses directly from native speakers, this activity allows students to exchange experiences and cultural knowledge with them. The two of them even often collaborate in a number of events such as Halloween, Kartini Day, and other cultural activities.
3. Creating Short Movies
Not only learning from professionals, students also practice their English skills by making short films in several courses. From here, their ability to produce audio-visual content is improved, starting from preparing, producing, to editing in post-production.
4. Management Skill Classes
Other than the English language itself, Bachelor of Applied English SV UGM allows the students to also learn other professional skills. The study program offers classes like Teaching, Hotel Management, MICE, Interpreting, Public Relations, and many more. These classes can improve students’ soft skills which will be very useful in the professional world.
