Public Relations Competency Test is a competency test in carrying out the profession of PR. This test aims to assess the knowledge, skills, and competencies of a PR officer theoretically and practically. There are several schemes in the PR competency test. However, Bachelor of Applied English accommodates the students for the Public Relations Officer scheme. All Bachelor of Applied English students who have completed the Introduction to PR course and On The Job Training (OJT) can take the test. There are seven competency units that must be taken in this scheme: conducting PR research; organizinging PR special events; designing PR program planning; establishing media relations; performing as Master of Ceremony; conducting seminars, conferences, workshops and meetings; as well as producing activity documentations.
There are at least three preparations needed to be done before the test, administration, technical, and competency test related document preparation. Following this, there are three assessment stages during the test. In Pre-assessment, the assessor confirms the application for assessment, explains the procedure for the assessment process, and asks for students’ complete assessment documents. In Assessment, the assessor examines students’ competence by interviewing, checking evidence in the form of a portfolio, and performing the PR competence related. In Post-assessment, the students are given the competency test results and are giving suggestions as well as feedback to the competency test administrators.
