Public Relations is an important part of communication. Public Relations is a strategic communication used by a party, whether an individual, company, or organization, to build such beneficial relationships with the community. Public relations is also the process of managing how information related to an organization or company is delivered to the public in order to maintain a good reputation.
While traditional public relations focus more on the conventional-electronic and printed media, digital public relations focus more on building brand image through web-based media. Bachelor of Applied English offered this digital public relations course as a compulsory subject in semester 2.
Digital Public Relations course will help students understand the evolution of public relations, from traditional to digital, along with the concepts and basic understanding of Digital Public Relations itself. Students are also introduced to Branding and Pitching Strategy. Here they will learn how to manage a brand as well as practice pitching directly to clients. This way, students can prepare things needed before and while dealing with clients.
In the second half of the semester, students are required to master the planning, research, as well as content development on different digital platforms, both websites and various social media such as Instagram, TikTok, and others. In the content creation process, students are challenged to also apply KPI (Key Performance Indicator) and SEO (Search Engine Optimization), an action or practice to optimize a website so that it appears on the first page of a search engine (Google Search). All of this can be learned in the Digital Public Relations course at Bachelor of Applied English Vocational College UGM. (Herlinda)
