Education: “Digital Content Creation” Course

Digital media has developed rapidly. Businesses and organizations then use this to communicate with the public. This is why skill to create Digital Content is important to master.

Digital Content can be in many forms. They might be any text, image, video or audio uploaded in digital format. These contents can then be accessed through various digital platforms such as web pages and social media. People can see the content through different devices such as laptops, tablets or smartphones.

Producing Digital Content requires preparation since the goal is not just to publish text or images in digital format. There must be a message that is conveyed through the digital content created.

Bachelor of Applied English SV UGM offers Digital Content Creation courses for students in semester 6 to learn more about Digital Content. Ms. Alfelia, one of the lecturers, said that in this course students will learn the stages of Digital Content production, starting from understanding basic concepts, planning, producing, and evaluating the content created. Not just creating digital content, students are expected to understand the purpose of the content creation, along with strategies needed to achieve these goals. A number of case studies will be done to stimulate students’ understanding and critical thinking. Students will also learn the right copywriting techniques for different platforms used to maximize each of them.

To apply the knowledge, students will also carry out a project. They will be asked to observe certain brands/organizations to determine the right Digital Content for a number of platforms owned by the related brand/organization. The digital content created is expected to strengthen the brand. The created content is then published and evaluated to see whether it is in accordance with the objectives. By implementing their knowledge through hands-on practice, students are expected to be able to identify the problems of a brand and offer real solutions through the digital content they create.
