Bachelor of Applied English is a new study program at UGM. After going through a thorough curriculum planning, this study program was finally opened in 2020 to answer the challenges in preparing highly-skilled graduates ready to join the professional industry. By applying the vocational system, the curriculum offered to students has been meticulously planned for real work experiences, not just theoretical study without practices. In other words, this study program includes real practice within most of the courses offered. In addition, Bachelor of Applied English is a Diploma 4 (D4) program whose graduates possess Bachelor of Applied English that is equal to Bachelor of Arts.
This study program offers a wide variety of subjects. The basic courses offered related to English skills include: Grammar, Writing, Speaking, Reading, and Translation. These courses have been adjusted to fit with the industry. In addition, students are provided with knowledge and skills related to business communication, e.g. Public Relations and communication. In addition to practicum that is carried out during classes, students are also given the opportunity to apply the knowledge and skills they get in the real world through On The Job Training (OJT) during their study period in the 4th semester. Moreover, they are also given an opportunity to experience real professional work within their internship period in the 7th semester, which can then be used to compile their final project.
